Alex Van den Broek is a versatile arranger, vocalist, choral director and singer-songwriter based in Brisbane, Australia. She’s also a huge lover of vocal harmony.

With her roots in choral and vocal harmony ensembles, Alex studied a Bachelor of Music at the Queensland University of Technology where she honed her skills in arranging, production, songwriting and performance.

Alex is a highly-sought after arranger/vocal director writing for ensembles both here in Australia and abroad, known for carefully curating magical moments to let every voice shine. In 2021 Alex began working extensively with The Little Red Company, one of Australia’s leading independent production houses, creating stunning musical moments for their smash hit shows including Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves, There’s Something About Music, Golden and Your Song, which won the Matilda Award for Best Musical/Cabaret. Little Red are also the producers of the Lord Mayor’s Christmas Carols held at the Riverstage and televised nationally, where Alex proudly works as both arranger and choral/vocal director, working with artists such as Kate Miller-Heidke, Johnny Manuel, Troy and Jem Cassar-Daley, Sheppard and more, as well as leading a dynamic team of choristers and vocalists.

In 2021 Alex got the itch to clone herself into a choir consisting only of one member - herself, and started creating short form content of her work on TikTok. She’s since watched her views skyrocket, and currently has over 200,000 followers and a total of 3.5 million likes… it turns out there’s more than a few people who also like delicious vocal harmonies! Through TikTok, Alex has been responsible for various trends and challenges, and loves seeing people from all across the world recreating her arrangements (including a cappella superstars Peter Hollens and Scott Hoying of Pentatonix).

If you couldn’t already tell, Alex is a huge lover of all things vocal harmony and contemporary choral music. After working closely with Vocal Australia on their AUSACA program, Alex has worked with multiple a cappella groups from across the country, and often mentors groups/runs workshops with various high schools here in Brisbane. Previously she spent 9 years as Choral Director at her former high school Centenary State High School, and 7 years as Music Director of QUT Vox Pop, a contemporary choir based at the Queensland University of Technology. Currently Alex is Musical Director of her newest project, the Little Red Choir, combining her loves of choral music and contemporary theatre.

As a vocalist, Alex has worked with multiple artists such as Kate Miller-Heidke, Naomi Price, Luke Kennedy, Tim Gaze, Tamam Shud, Emma Dean and more, and absolutely loves working as a session/backing vocalist.

And when she’s not TikTok-ing, writing charts or conducting groups, Alex spends her time writing, recording and gigging with her electro-pop girl band MVP here in Brisbane.
