Alex Van den Broek (she/her) is a versatile arranger, vocalist, choral / music director and teaching artist based in Brisbane, Australia. She’s also a huge lover of vocal harmony.

Alex is a highly sought after arranger / vocal director with a strong drive for vocal and harmonic excellence whilst creating safe and nurturing spaces for music making. She’s worked extensively in Brisbane’s theatre, choral, music and television scenes weaving her magic through multiple projects for stage, screen and beyond.

Recently Alex was commissioned to compose and music direct BEACON by Everybody NOW! for BLEACH Festival, a multidisciplinary project that saw 200+ singers from all over Southeast Queensland come together as one to sing amongst a brilliantly bold large-scale installation by powerhouse artist Morag Myerscough (UK), with words / lyrics penned by divine author Holly Ringland.

Her theatre work includes music directing La Boite Theatre’s dynamic new work Congratulations, Get Rich! - a co-production between La Boite, Sydney Theatre Company and Singapore Repertory Theatre, as well as music directing Fancy Long Legs, a co-production between La Boite and The Little Red Company which premiered at Brisbane Festival. She’s also contributed to a number of shows as vocal director and/or arranger for independent production house The Little Red Company, creating stunning musical moments for their hit shows Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves, Swing On This, the Matilda award-winning Your Song and more.

Alex’s greatest love in life is hearing all things vocal harmony and contemporary choral music, both as a conductor and arranger. In 2027 she’ll bring to life her brand new choral project Hark! - a vibrant contemporary choir full of big harmonies and big hearts. Previously she directed the Little Red Choir from 2023 - 2025, QUT Vox Pop (Queensland University of Technology’s choir) from 2016 - 2022, and multiple school vocal programs since 2013. Alex proudly worked as both arranger and choral / vocal director on the Lord Mayor’s Christmas Carols (2021 - 2024) televised nationally on Channel 9, which saw her working with artists like Kate Miller-Heidke, Dami Im, Queensland Ballet, Ngaiire and many more, as well as leading a dynamic team of choristers and vocalists each year (her favourite part).

As a mentor and teaching artist, Alex has worked closely with Vocal Australia on their AUSACA program, working with a cappella groups across the country, and is regularly mentoring groups or running workshops in choral repertoire, composition, performance and vocal technique in schools across Brisbane. She’s also currently a lecturer in Musical Theatre at JMC Academy.

When she’s not in the rehearsal room, recording studio or at her desk, Alex can often be found singing away on her little corner of the internet to her 200,000+ strong community on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube.
