Alex Van den Broek is a versatile arranger, vocalist, choral/music director and teaching artist based in Brisbane, Australia. She’s also a huge lover of vocal harmony.

With her roots in choral and vocal harmony ensembles, Alex studied a Bachelor of Music at the Queensland University of Technology where she honed her skills in arranging, production, songwriting and performance. Since then, she’s continued to fill her life with a dynamic collection of musical experiences across theatre, music, television productions and plenty in between.

Alex is a highly-sought after arranger/vocal director, known for carefully curating magical moments to let every voice shine. She’s worked extensively with Brisbane independent production house The Little Red Company, creating stunning musical moments for their smash hit shows including Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves, Fancy Long Legs, There’s Something About Music and the Matilda award-winning Your Song. From 2021 - 2024 Alex proudly worked as both arranger and choral/vocal director on Little Red’s productions of the Lord Mayor’s Christmas Carols held at the Riverstage and televised nationally on Channel 9, which saw her working with artists like Kate Miller-Heidke, Dami Im, Johnny Manuel, Troy and Jem Cassar-Daley, Sheppard and many more, as well as leading a dynamic team of choristers and vocalists each year.

In 2024 she music directed a ground-breaking new children’s work Rachel Burke’s Fancy Long Legs, a co-production between La Boite Theatre and Little Red which premiered at Brisbane Festival, and in 2025 returns to La Boite to music direct their dynamic new work Congratulations, Get Rich, a co-production between La Boite, Sydney Theatre Company and Singapore Repertory Theatre.

With over 10 years experience in leading choirs, Alex’s great love in life is hearing all things vocal harmony and contemporary choral music. After working closely with Vocal Australia on their AUSACA program, Alex has worked with multiple a cappella groups from across the country, and often mentors groups/runs workshops with various high schools here in Brisbane. She’s also often found adjudicating at different eisteddfods and competitions, including Education Queensland’s Choral Fanfare program in 2023. Previously she spent 9 years as Choral Director at her former high school Centenary State High School, and 7 years as Music Director of QUT Vox Pop, a contemporary choir based at the Queensland University of Technology. Currently Alex is Musical Director of her newest project, the Little Red Choir, combining her loves of choral music and contemporary theatre.

In 2021 Alex got the itch to clone herself into a choir consisting of only one member - herself, and started creating short form content of her work on TikTok. While it was somewhat a way to pass the time through multiple lockdowns, she quickly watched the views skyrocket across a number of videos, and found a corner on the internet full of over 200,000 people that loved hearing beautiful harmonies.

As a vocalist/session musician, Alex has worked with multiple artists such as Bluey/Joff Bush, Kate Miller-Heidke, Naomi Price, Luke Kennedy, Tim Gaze, Tamam Shud, Emma Dean and more, and absolutely loves doing studio and live performance projects.
